The Mayan Riviera is the touristic area situated along the Caribbean Sea in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. Geographically it extends along the coast with a longitude of 130km, from the town of Puerto Morelos in the north to the town of Punta Allen in the south.<br />Created in 1998 under a mandate by public authorities (State of Quintana Roo, Canton de Solidaridad) and by the professional organizations of tourism in the area, the Mayan Riviera became, along with Cancun, the most important tourist destination in Mexico and one of the most visited destinations in the world.<br />Playa del Carmen is the head of the municipality of Solidaridad y boasts more than 23 thousand hotel rooms.<br />Similar to Cancun, the beaches of the Mayan Riviera are distinguished by having a fine, white sand and a beautiful, turquoise blue sea.
